Every nightmare has an end.
There’s no way Nora can ignore the beating. Same heavy boots. Same curses, same pained groans. But that was two years ago, and this a different man, a different part of war-ravaged Sarajevo. This is her second chance. She has to try.
And then she’s stuck with him, nursing him, putting up with him. Declan’s an ass. He’s rude and tactless. He’s arrogant. Dismissive.
Charming. Intense. Caring when she needs it most – and least expects it. He tears away the numbing fog that’s been her constant companion and offers her a way out and a way home.
And it damn near destroys her.
Nora’s survived two years in a war zone. Can Declan show her how to live?

Hi Amanda! Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
Nora’s been trapped in the war-ravaged city of Sarajevo for two years when she stumbles on a group of soldiers beating a man. After she intervenes, she finds herself having to nurse him through his injuries. The last thing she wants is to get involved with someone, especially someone as careless as Declan, but the more time they spend together, the closer they get...and the more determined Declan is to save Nora from the war.

What inspired you to write it?
This was a little strange, because it was actually a dream I had; I hardly ever remember my dreams. I was running through dark, rain-slicked streets, trying to avoid gunfire, and I knew – you know, in that weird way you know things in dreams – that I was in Sarajevo. Even weirder is I’ve never been to Sarajevo. I couldn’t get the images out of my head, so I wrote them down.

How did you come up with the idea for the cover?
I had the hardest time finding an image that fit the picture in my head. I wanted something that was kind of dark, kind of desolate…I saw this on a stock photo site, bought it, and sent it to my cover designer, Gabrielle with Cover Your Dreams. The rest of it is all her – she’s amazing.

If it was made into a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?
Michelle Williams as Nora. For Declan…I have no clue. Probably some Irish actor no one’s ever heard of.

Is it part of a series or is it a stand-alone novel?
Fracture is a stand alone.

Where is the novel set and why did you choose to set it there?
Fracture is set in present-day Sarajevo. I didn’t choose the setting; it kinda chose me. When I started writing, it didn’t make a lot of sense to change the setting – Sarajevo already had a recent history of violence (the Siege of Sarajevo, from 1993-1995) – so I just went with it.

What is it about this genre that appeals to you so much?
I write across the romance genre – New Adult, contemporary, paranormal/urban fantasy, romantic suspense – and I like how it’s constantly changing. What you couldn’t get away with two years ago is now the norm.

What made you want to become an author?
The voices in my head wouldn’t shut up? *grins* A few years ago, I read an article in Wired about a man who “disappeared” from his life, falling off the grid, and it made me wonder why someone would do something like that – cut off all contact with friends and family without explanation, lose their identity and create a new one – so I decided to write about it.

How do you come up with character names?
Usually a baby name generator, although on occasion the character’s name just hits me over the head.

Name one of your all-time favourite books?
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I could give you a book report-worthy synopsis, I’ve read it so many times.

Who, or what, inspires you?
Random things – other stories, pictures, songs. I had a story idea come to me after the last couple of episodes of The Blacklist, where Liz and Tom’s relationship took a rather…intriguing turn.

Where is your favourite place to write?
The couch. It’s comfortable and my cat is less likely to complain because she can stare over my shoulder at my laptop while I’m working.

What is your favourite movie that was based on a book?
LA Confidential. The movie was dark and complex, the book even more so.

Name two of your favourite authors.
Nalini Singh and Tana French
Tell us a random fact about yourself.
I’m a serious introvert; as much as I love my partner, I’m so very, very glad he’s not usually home when I get off work. It gives me time to recharge.

Who would play you in the movie about your life?
photo credit: Breaking Upwards Cast: Zoe Lister-Jones & Daryl Wein via photopin (license)
Zoe Lister Jones (of Breaking Upwards and Lola Versus). Or someone short.

Tell us an interesting fact about where you live.
Everyone always thinks it rains a lot in Seattle. It’s a lie we tell people so they don’t move here *evil grin*. It actually rains more in Miami than it does in Seattle.

What are your (writing) plans for the future?
I have a couple of releases scheduled over the next year – Hidden Scars, a contemporary romance, is the next one. It releases in September. And I’ll be releasing a novella chapter by chapter beginning May 19th over on Wattpad, so be sure to check it out!

Tell us one thing that's on your bucket list.
One day I’m going to make it to South Africa. It’s high on my travel list, but it’s pretty expensive to get to.

Favourite myth / fairytale?
I’m not much for myths or fairytales, though I did like the story of Narcissus and Echo.

Who/What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A jockey. I wanted to race horses for a living.

When she’s not plotting ways to sneak her latest shoe purchase past her partner, Amanda writes sexy, snarky romance and urban fantasy. She likes her heroines smart and unafraid to make mistakes, and her heroes strong enough to take them on.
If she’s not writing, she’s reading, drinking hot chocolate, and trying not to destroy her house with her newest DIY project. She lives in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and no, it really doesn’t rain that much.
