It is the summer of 2012. The sky is blue, the ocean is crisp, and six young women are missing, including Madison Porter.
At the disappearance of her best friend, Amber Swanson falls into a spiral of destruction. She smokes, drinks and gets caught stealing. Her parents don't know what to do with her, so she is sent to live with her half-sister, Rebecca, in Virginia.
Ethan Hunter lives by the saying ‘blood is thicker than water’; even when his mother up and left him. At sixteen, he’s torn between holding on to the only family he has left and forging his own path for the future. He secretly plans his escape from his small, southern town.
The two lives collide and, as Amber puts the pieces of her best friend’s disappearance together, she and Ethan are thrown into a whirlwind of secrets, deceit, and murder.

Can you tell us a little about your latest book, Three Little Lies?
It is about a young girl, Amber Swanson, who stumbles across the path of a serial killer while trying to find the answers to her friend’s disappearance.

What inspired you to write it?
The whole book started when I realized I’ve never read a book with a physically or mentally disabled character in it. Technically, I’m physically disabled and I wanted to write a story with a character who was physically disabled. I wanted to show that, no matter what someone might have gone through or what limitations they may have, they still have the ability to be great and do whatever they set their minds to.

How did you come up with the idea for the cover?

It wasn’t the original cover I wanted. But thanks to Janine Fourie, an awesome cover was made. She’s actually part of a company, the Sparkle Book Tour Company that does a lot of great work helps authors out a lot. If you’re a new author and looking for a promotion company, I would definitely look into them.

If it was made into a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?
The two very main characters, Amber and Ethan, I would want to be played by Drake (in his younger years like when he played in Degrassi) and Laura Prepon (how she looks like in Orange Is The New Black)

What is it about this genre that appeals to you so much?
I like writing young adult because I can remember being a young adult, and technically sort of still am. I’m only 26 so I don’t feel like I can write adult characters very well, and I like getting back into that teenage mindset…all the emotion and drama. It’s kind of fun.

What made you want to become an author?
I became a writer because it was my escape. With twenty seven surgeries under my belt, I had a lot of down time recovering. I started writing because it was something I was good at, something that kept my mind occupied. It gave me control when I felt like my life had no control. I started writing because it kept me alive…it saved me and made me stronger than ever. And then I decided that that’s what I wanted to do with my whole life and decided that I was going to build myself up as an author.

How do you come up with character names?
They weren’t the original names. But when I was talking to my editor, she brought up that the names were, in a way, lame (my words not hers). I went onto Seventh Sanctum which is a name generator and kind of pushed together some first names and last names to see how they fit together.

Name one of your all-time favourite books?
Harry Potter, no questions asked. I grew up with the characters. I was only 9 when the book first came out in the U.S. and I read the books religiously until there were no more to read.

Who, or what, inspires you?
My mother inspires me. She didn’t decide to go back to school until she was already married and had three children, one of which was very sick (me). Yet she managed to go back to school for nursing and receive her master’s degree. She showed me that anything is possible, if you just put your mind to it.

Where is your favourite place to write?
Probably outside. I love nature and I love being able to relax in the sun as I create people and lives that once didn’t exist. I also like writing in the car (or typing really). I like seeing the different places go by and getting inspired by them.

What is your favourite movie that was based on a book?
Divergent. It was the closest book to movie adaptation I’ve seen in a while.

Name two of your favourite authors.
Jodi Picoult and J.K. Rowling

If you could have a dinner party with any authors from any time in history, who would you choose and why?
J.K. Rowling because she went through a lot in her own life and still managed to come out on top. She knew what she wanted and went for it no matter how hard it was.

Tell us a random fact about yourself.

I’ve been in three Red Bull Flugtag Events.

Who would play you in the movie about your life?
Katie Holmes I think. WE both have that girl next door kind of look.

Tell us an interesting fact about where you

Well in New York City there is a huge statue of a needle, thread, and a button on fashion row.

What are your (writing) plans for the future?
I plan to write the sequel to Three Little Lies and then hopefully start on a series that I’ve been playing around with. I also hope to co-author a book with a friend of mine.

Tell us one thing that's on your bucket list.
To go to England. I’ve always wanted to see what it was like there and I’m hoping to go in the next five years.

Favourite myth / fairytale?
Beauty and the Beast. I think I liked it because Belle was the first princess I know who didn’t need/want a man in her life really. She was fine being who she was.

“Amber!” My eyes snapped open and I looked around wildly. Cold sweat beaded my forehead and my hands were shaking. My wooden leg wasn't next to me but my sister and Jacob were. Jacob held crutches and handed them to me as our eyes met.
“Thanks,” I muttered, forgetting for a moment that I didn’t like him. “Why are you screaming at me?”
“Because you were screaming yourself,” Rebecca said. “You must have fallen asleep and you started crying out.” I sat up straighter. Not this again I thought. The doctor said the pills would take care of it.
“How bad?” I asked. “What did I say?”
“I couldn't understand you,” Rebecca admitted. “But it sounded pretty bad. Is everything okay?”
“It's fine,” I said sharply. There was no way that I was going to tell Rebecca about the dream. “I'm fine.”
“There's no reason to be so angry Amber,” Jacob said. “Your sister is just trying to help.”
“I said I'm fine,” I snapped. “She's not trying to help as much as trying to get on our father's good side. She was always the goody two shoes...daddy's little princess. If her perfect reputation wasn’t at stake, she wouldn’t give a damn about me.”
