New York’s hottest “sexpert” has been living a lie—and it’s up to one man to keep her honest . . . all night long.
Riley McKenna knows sex – good sex, bad sex, kinky sex…Her articles in Stiletto magazine are consistently the publication’s most scandalous—and the most read. But Riley has a secret…all that sexy talk? Not an ounce of it comes from personal experience. Her own bedroom escapades are more limited than even her best friends know. When her editor requests that all columnists write something more personal for Stiletto’s anniversary issue, Riley turns to the one man she’s always been able to count on and calls in the favor of a lifetime.
Sam Compton would do anything for Riley McKenna. Anything except be her experimental sex toy. He refuses her request. At least until she tells him that it’ll either be him or she’ll go to someone else. And that, Sam can’t accept. Reluctantly he agrees to her terms—one night of completely meaningless sex in the name of research. Riley thinks she’s prepared for what awaits her in Sam’s bed. After ten years of writing about sex, actually doing it shouldn’t be that different, right? So wrong. What starts as “one time only” becomes “just one more time.” And then one more. And before they know it, Riley and Sam learn first-hand that when it comes to love, there’s no such thing as just one night.

Author Interview
Do dreams ever inspire your writing? What did you last dream about?
Yes, although oddly enough, none of my dream-inspired books are ready for publication just yet. For whatever reason, I seem to dream in YA , so any dream-inspired books are in the young adult genre. I guess that means I'm a teen at heart? Most recently it was a dream about a guy who had to choose between the fate of his people and the girl he loved. It's been a doozy to plot that one!

When did you first start writing? And when were you first published?
I wrote a BUNCH of "chapter ones" from 2005-2007 or so, but didn't complete my first book until 2010 or so. My first book sold in August 2012, although oddly enough the first one to sell isn't the first one to get published. That honor goes to After the Kiss, book 1 in my Stiletto series.

What is it about 'chick lit' that appeals to you the most? Do you read other genres?
You know, I read all genres that are romance-focused, but there's something about contemporary romance and chick lit that really clicks with me. I think it's because it's so easy to relate to the characters. I don't know what it was like to live in 19th century England, but I know all too well what it's like to have sweaty palms in a corporate job interview or to have a weirdo hit on you at a bar. I love it because it's relatable--that's probably a cliché answer, but there ya have it!

Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
Sure! Just One Night is the third in my Stiletto series, and it's sort of a blend of best-friends-to-lovers/fall-for-brother's-best-friend story. Riley and Sam have pretty much had the hots for each other for ten years, but they've never quite got the timing right. Until now.

What inspired you to write it?You know, I'm not sure? Riley and Sam's story was always really clear to me from the beginning. With the other Stiletto girls I had to do some brainstorming on how they met their guy, but for Riley's story, Sam was always just there in the background waiting for her :)

Have you ever spotted anyone reading your books anywhere?
Nah, the growing popularity of e-readers makes that difficult, and so far all of my books are digital-only, although I do have my first paperback coming out in July (Only With You). But believe me, I spend a LOT of time on airplanes wondering if anyone has my book on their Kindle.

Who designs your covers?
My fabulous publishers! Random House does my Stiletto books and my New Adult titles, and Grand Central Publishing designed the covers for my upcoming Best Mistake series.

If your latest book was made into a film, who would you cast?

I've gotten asked this a couple times, and it breaks my heart to say that Paul Walker was my inspiration for Sam. RIP, lovely man. As for Riley, she definitely looks a bit like Megan Fox in my mind, but she's also got Angelina Jolie's confidence and in-your-face sexiness.

What's your favourite Chick Lit book that made it to the big screen?

I can't even tell you how many times I've watched Bridge Jones Diary. The sequel not so much, but that first movie is one of my all-time-favorites. That scene in the kitchen with Mark and Bridget and the longing looks? I mean … COME ON!

What were the last two books you read?
I just finished an ARC of Cassie Mae's THE REAL THING and it was almost ridiculously delightful. It won't be out until August, but seriously, go pre-order. I read it all in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. On a less sexy note, I just finished up The Power of Habitb Charles Duhig that was really a fascinating look into the way our brains work. But then, I tend to be a geek like that.

Name one female author who you think deserves to be better known.
Oh my gosh, great question. I'll say Macy Beckett whose contemporary romances are some of the best that I've read. I wouldn't say she's "little known" necessarily, because she's cranking out book deals like crazy, so I know editors see her genius, but I think her name belongs up there with the romance "greats."

Where do you write?
Every now and then I'll have the urge to get out of the house and write from Starbucks, but for the most part I like to be in my apartment. I start out the morning with my laptop in bed (with coffee on the nightstand), and once my battery dies, I move to my desk with my monitor and notebooks and stuff.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? And did you follow the dream?
Well for a hot minute there I wanted to be a vet, but for the most part, being an author was always the dream. It took me a little while to pursue it, but I'm so glad I did.

In the movie of your life, who would play you?

Well I've recently been compared to Kristen Bell a couple times, which is odd since she's blond hair/blue eyed and I'm black hair/brown eyed, but I'll take it! From a looks perspective, probably Katie Holmes, from a personality perspective, Jenna Fischer (Pam from The Office).

Speed Round...
