Found In You by K.L Ruse

Do dreams ever inspire your writing? What did you last dream about?
My dreams are so twisted that I think I’d be afraid to see a book about any one of them! My last dream involved me, a bridge, and a Disney princess (told you they were twisted!)

When did you first start writing? And when were you first published?
I really have always been a writer. When I was in third grade my teacher assigned us a project where we had to write a children’s book. I spent all of my time on perfecting that book and it was actually chosen to be “published” in the school library. From that day on I haven’t really stopped writing.
I hit the publish button for the first time this past January and that’s when my debut novel, Found in You, got its start.

What is it about 'chick lit' that appeals to you the most? Do you read other genres?
I am a sucker for love-at-first-sight and happily-ever-afters! However, sometimes I get real crazy and jump into the dystopian world. I sometimes like dark and gritty!

Can you tell us a little about your latest book?
All of the characters in Found in You face some sort of loss in their lives, feeling the wrath of loneliness, abandonment, or death of a loved one. The story is about finding your way through the darkness and somehow finding the light. Often times it can be found in someone else, someone who just shows up in your life at a time when you need it the most.

What inspired you to write it?
Personally, my family really inspired me to take this leap. My husband’s support was endless and I really wanted to doe this to prove to my two young daughters that in life anything is possible if you believe in yourself.
In the book world, I was reading A.L. Jackson’s Take this Regret and I was so inspired by the emotion in the story that I wanted to write my own story and maybe touch someone in the same way.

Have you ever spotted anyone reading your books anywhere?
Not yet! Remember, I’m a writer so I don’t leave my house much!! But if that day ever comes I think I would act like a giddy school girl!

Who designs your covers?
Regina Wamba from Mae I Design created my cover for Found in You. Having seen her work prior to writing, I knew that I wanted to work with her if I ever took the leap.

If your latest book was made into a film, who would you cast?
I always pictured Mila Kunis when I was writing Camryn’s character in the book and Trevor Donovan for Cole. He’s very hot and has surfer written all over him!

What's your favourite Chick Lit book that made it to the big screen?
I would have to say Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin or Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. They are both guilty pleasures for me!

What were the last two books you read?
I just finished The Fault of our Stars by Josh Green and Saving Quinton by Jessica Sorenson.

Name one female author who you think deserves to be better known.
This is a tough question because there are so many indie authors who are amazing, but just don’t have the reach to be well known. Abi Ketner and Missy Kalicicki are a fabulous writing pair who wrote an amazing dystopian romance called Branded. There is no doubt in my mind that these two deserve to be better known in the writing world!

Where do you write?
I write everywhere in my house. Sometimes if I need quiet, I’ll even lock myself in the bathroom with my laptop and sit in the empty tub.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? And did you follow the dream?
As I kid, I wanted to be a veterinarian, but when I found out you would have to handle pet snakes that dream was gone! In all seriousness, I think I am following my dreams – I’m a wife, a mom, a teacher, and now I can add writer to that list.

In the movie of your life, who would play you?
For some reason Jennifer Garner is coming to mind. Not sure why, but maybe it has to do with the dedicated mom she appears to be but is also following her own dream.

Speed Round...
Top drink to make you tipsy? Wine always does me in
Shopaholic or shopadon't? Shopaholic
Sky high heels or closer to the ground? Closer to the ground
E.L. James or Jilly Cooper? E.L. James
Cry baby or tough cookie? Tough Cookie
Exotic beach or enchanted forest? Exotic beach

Twenty-three-year-old Camryn Singer never imagined that she would return to the place where she lost everything. To grant a dying wish, she moves back to the small Jersey beach town where she grew up, hoping to somehow find the missing pieces of her life. Determined to keep her wounds unopened and her heart guarded, she instead slams head-first into Cole Stevens.
Sexy surfer Cole has always used the waves to numb the pain of his past. But when he runs into Camryn on the beach one day, he wants nothing more than for her to heal his scars and light the spark back in his life.
Will Camryn and Cole be ripped apart when the ghosts from their pasts come back to life, or will they discover that it’s not until you’re lost, that you can be found?

About The Author

I am a middle school teacher who recently traded in my chalk for a laptop to follow my dream of writing contemporary romance novels. I live with my husband and two daughters in the suburbs of Philadelphia. When I'm not writing, I spend my time reading and relaxing with my family at my home-away-from-home, the Jersey shore. After I graduated from Villanova University in 2003, I never imagined my path would lead me in this direction. Writing was a hobby, an outlet for me to live in a world of happily ever after. Now as I watch my dream become a reality, I believe that happy endings do exist.
