Bestselling chick lit author Jane Green is here!!

I'm over the moon to have the totally awesome, bestselling original Chick Lit author Jane Green here for a chat today!! YAY!!

When did you first start reading Chick Lit?
I didn't, I wrote the first book I wrote - Straight Talking - because at that time there were no books that captured the real experience of being single and in your thirties, and I wanted to write a book I could relate to.

When did you first start writing Chick Lit?
My first book was written in 1996.

What is it about this genre that appeals to you the most? Do you read other genres? If so, which?
I read all the time, and not in any particular genre, although I am finding myself gravitating to novels with more of an element of suspense of late - Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, and Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes are two of my more recent favorites.

Name one of your favourite Chick Lit books?
Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes

What's the title of your latest book? Can you tell us about it?
Tempting Fate comes out in March. When Gabby first met Elliott she knew he was the man for her. In twenty years of marriage she has never doubted her love for him - even when he refused to give her the one thing she still wants most of all. But now their two daughters are growing up Gabby feels that time and her youth are slipping away. For the first time in her life she is restless. And then she meets Matt... Intoxicated by the way this young, handsome and successful man makes her feel, Gabby is momentarily blind to what she stands to lose on this dangerous path. And in one reckless moment she destroys all that she holds dear. Consumed by regret, Gabby does everything she can to repair the home she has broken. But are some betrayals too great to forgive?

What inspired you to write it?
A number of things: the growing recognition that in my mid-forties I am suddenly invisible, and what that might mean; the number of women my age who suddenly announce they are terribly unhappy, leave their husbands, and you later discover they are having an affair, which almost always goes wrong; and the belief that we are all flawed, and all doing the best we can.

Is it part of a series?
No. I have never written a series.

Who designs your covers?
My brilliant publisher.

If your latest book was made into a film, who would you cast?
Bradley Cooper would make a lovely Mark, but no idea for Maggie and Sylvie in Family Pictures.

What's your favourite Chick Lit book that made it to the big screen?
Sadly I'm not a big movie-goer, and have probably missed them all.

Speed Round...
Top drink to make you tipsy?
Ketel One Martini, filthy dirty, straight up.
Shopaholic or shopadon't? Shopaholic rather than shopavoid
Sky high heels or closer to the ground? Ballet flats or french sneakers please.
E.L. James or Jilly Cooper? Jilly! Jilly! Jilly! I grew up with Octavia, Emily, Harriet, and still re-read them to this day.
Cry baby or tough cookie? Tough cookie, but ridiculously sentimental so do cry. A lot.

Jane Green was born in London and has lived in Connecticut for seven years. One of the founding writers behind the genre known as ‘chick lit’, Green now writes novels that reflect the lives of real women today, with all the trials and tribulations that come with real life: from in-laws, motherhood, mid-life crises and loss, all of which are told with Green’s trademark warmth, wit and wisdom.
